LIBERTY VAN ~ EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY ~ December 14, 2013

I can hardly believe it myself, but this past week, Liberty Van has completed EIGHT YEARS
on the highways of America, since I first took paint to her windows in mid December, 2005.
Liberty Van is a 2004 Nissan Quest, which has served (and still does) as my dog show van.
We raise Afghan Hounds.  You can see our dogs here, www.hosanna1.com/Hounds/
She now has 390,000+ miles on her.  When I started painting on her in 2005, she had about
57,000 miles.

Since her humble beginning, she evolved into a full blown, award winning art car.  She, and
my newer van, Freedom Van, tied for a Free Speech Trophy at the Houston Art Car Parade
(the largest art car event in America) in 2011, and she's won some placements in Christmas
parades as well.  These days, she's like a minor rock star almost everywhere she goes.
Liberty Van may be the most photographed vehicle in America (if not the world).  For 8 years,
and nearly 340,000 miles, everyone and their grandma has been taking pictures of her in 48
states.

I call her Liberty Van for the verse on her front bumper, from II Corinthians 3:17, KJV

Liberty Van is covered with velvets, satins, metallic and sequined lame' fabrics; and has
sequined and beaded trims.  Some of the lettering is hand painted, some is cut out of fabric,
on fabric.  She is adorned with statues, jewelry, blown glass, and even a couple of snow globes.
She's also trimmed with mostly red, white, and blue silk flowers, and red, white and blue
star shaped lights.  Oh, there is LOTS of glitter, and she has wind chimes and bells, too.
Some of the signs are printed on my computer, then laminated.  The larger items, and flower
& light trim are tied onto roof racks with ratchet tie downs.  The signs and fabrics are attached
with carpet tape, the rest is glued with Amazing Goop.  She is fairly weather proof.  I've driven
her through blizzards, ice storms (including one that shut down 4 states), deserts at 117 degrees,
dodged tornados in her, and she got hit by lightning about 5 years ago.

I wash her regularly in the do it yourself car washes, for two reasons.  It would be no fun at
all to drive her around if I could not keep her all sparkly.  Also, safety is an issue.  I blast her
on purpose with the high pressure hose.  If there are any problems with that, I FIX it before
I take her out on the road.  In all these years and miles, she's only lost a silk flower, or sometimes
one of the little bells or wind chimes occasionally.

If there is any such thing as a spoiled rotten vehicle, Liberty Van is it.  Whatever she wants, she
gets - chrome wheels for summer, snow shoes (studded snow tires) for winter, even new radio
buttons.  She also has a rear view camera, as even if my back windows were not covered,
I have her loaded to the ceiling almost all the time with great big dog crates.

She is a little cannon in the 'culture war'.  Art IS part of culture, and she is art, that is available
to the public everywhere I go.  She's entertained and brought smiles to millions of folks, and
I've never had more fun in my life.  Even most of those who do not agree with the information
I am sharing love her.  They say things like, 'I don't agree with that, but you said it so beautifully'
(as they click click click with the camera or phone : ).  And, actually, after all these years and
miles and 48 states, my experience is that MOST folks EVERYWHERE DO agree with most
of it!!!  MOST non communists, whether they smoke or not, believe that business OWNERS
should decide what happens on THEIR property.  And, most non smokers are mentally well
balanced folks, who do not care who smokes, so long as no one blows it on them.  There is
a tiny minority of those who will stand outdoors in a parking lot, in the middle of dozens of
idling automobiles, who will complain about tobacco smoke.  Those folks are NEUROTIC,
they are mentally ill. Liberty Van is about LIBERTY - I often tell people the front bumper is
the bottom line.  Smoking is just ONE of my liberty issues (since I AM a smoker : )

Here is Liberty Van's 'birth' story, because people are always asking me about that.

In mid December, 2005, I was on my way with 5 Afghan Hounds to a few days of dog shows
in Wheaton & Rosemont IL (near Chicago).  They had just passed the Chicago smoking
ban, and it ticked me off more than some of them have, as I was born near there.  These days,
I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I was actually born in 'Cr'ook County, IL (just N. of Chicago,
in Evanston).  So, on the way to those shows, I stopped at the rest area at exit 0, on I64, on
the border of IL, and took Walmart florescent poster paints to my then nearly new dog show
van.  I painted the back window,
Just for good measure, I added the abbreviations for the states with statewide smoking bans.

Also, they did not want us to say 'Merry Christmas' then, which also annoyed me a LOT.
So, I painted the side windows too, and stuck a couple of little 'foam' Christmas trees there.

I went to dog shows near Chicago like that, also cruised Chicago.  I had SO MUCH FUN!
Smokers were hanging out their windows all over the place, thumbs upping me, and
even cheering : )  Everyone liked my 'Merry Christmas's, and I thought, why have I been
wasting 40,000-50,000 miles/year ALL OVER the USA, when this thing makes such a
great billboard???  Why not creatively exercise my first amendment rights?

When I got home, I cleaned that all off, and redid it, and made it 'pretty'.  Then I started adding
ON to it.  This is how Liberty Van was 'born'.

On FB, last week are updates of when Liberty Van was all over the news, when I won a
harassment ticket in New Jersey.  After 8 years, and hundreds of thousands of miles,
I am at a point where I have ZERO tolerance for harassment.
Also on FB, check out October 14, 2013, when we helped liberate the
WWII Memorial in Washington DC, during the government shut down.

I have literally dozens of directories, and hundreds of photos of Liberty Van and her travels
which I have just never had time to put up on the websites.  To date, I have photos of Liberty
Van in front of every Statehouse except Hawaii & Alaska, but all of them are not on the website.
I don't have much help, other than my sweetheart husband taking care of stuff at home while I'm
on the road.  I have no help at all with the websites, so sorry if they are out of date, or not done
'fancy' or 'pretty' enough (see disclaimer below : ).

Recently, someone volunteered to make a youtube of some of the pics.  I think he did a great
job, though some of the pics are actually Freedom Van (a 2010 Kia Sedona).
Here's the link to that youtube:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMSZ0o1HO-o  from john in florida

I bought Freedom Van in 2010, when Liberty Van was in the shop again (she was 5 yrs. old, and had
over a quarter million miles on her).  I pasted signs all over the Kia before driving it off the new car
lot, and took it directly to Glasgow, KY City Hall, for a smoking ban meeting.  Freedom Van is now
three and a half years old, and has 113,000+ miles.  I used to do seasonal trims on Liberty Van, but
after acquiring the Kia, I have left Liberty Van permanently in what used to be her summer stuff,
eagles, flags, red, white and blue, and patriotic stuff.  Since then, I've been using all the other seasonal
stuff on Freedom Van, so depending on time of year, she's done up for Christmas, Valentines Day,
St. Patrick's Day.  In the spring and summer she is covered with butterflies, and she also has fall
flowers.  Prior to fall, 2010, Liberty Van was 'dressed' seasonally.

About the big eagle on the trailer:  I found that in a Native American art and jewelry gallery in down
town Santa Fe New Mexico, in July 2011, when attending a Doctors for Disaster Preparedness
Conference in Albuquerque, NM.  It was delivered to me at Fancy Farm, KY in August, 2011.
It is 350 lbs of brass, and since it was too big and heavy to put on the van, I fixed him his own
little 'war wagon'.  I bring him on some of my trips with either van.

NO one is paying me anything to do anything.  I'm a 'ticked off' grandma from Kentucky.
It doesn't get ANY more 'grassroots' than that.  All my projects are 100% PRIVATELY funded.
They are also about 99.9% PERSONALLY funded.  Since I am not actually 'rich', I may end
up a bag lady.  I am doing what I am CALLED to do, and using EVERY inspiration,
talent, and resource God has blessed me with.  It all belongs to Him, anyway.

Liberty Van and Freedom Van are my Hosanna Afghan Hounds dog show mobiles.
The dogs are not a 'business', but a very expensive HOBBY.  We have finished,
or produced (so far) 23 AKC Champions, and two Grand Champions.

I am the sole owner and sole 'webslave' of www.hosanna1.com (online since 1998),

Since there is only me, and I'm on the road so much, my older pages may be out of date,
and may not work well with newer hardware/software/browsers.  Most of the older stuff
was done with IE.  I do not have the resources to test everything with everything, so
to serve the priority of getting info up, I am shifting to much more simple methods,
which SHOULD work with just about anything.  It may not be as 'pretty' as I could do it,
but given my time constraints, it's the best I can do.

Being on the road as much as I have been would probably be impossible, but 27 years
ago God blessed me with the most wonderful husband, John Farley.  He's a 'home body',
hates to go anywhere, but he agrees with me about EVERY WORD I put on those vans,
and he supports my every effort.  He fixes my lights on the vans, and helps me with
technical support at home.  We met when we shared an office at IBM - he's an engineer
(retired).  He holds the fort down here, caring for kids, grandkids, and of course the dogs.
Some of the kids help me from time to time with the vans, mostly with deconstruction,
when changing them from one season to another.  I pay them for their work, they are
not slave labor.  My 6 kids range in age from 44-18, and they are ALL AWESOME.
Michael, the youngest, became a Marine on October 11, 2013.

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand."  Ephesians 6:11-13

I have pledged my life, my treasure, and my sacred honor to the service of God and my country.
